Clugston Construction’s Leeds region have recently completed a £7.5 million contract to provide the civils work for a new Bottom Ash (BA) processing facility for Ballast Phoenix at Ferrybridge.
Located at the Ferrybridge Power Station site in Knottingley, the new facility will process the Bottom Ash generated by two adjacent EfW plants. Using Ballast Phoenix's process, the metals will be extracted from the BA and supplied to metal companies for reuse, whilst the remaining material will be graded into sustainable sources of aggregates for the construction industry.
The central element of the combined building and civil engineering project involved the construction of a 1,700m2 portal frame process and storage building, including a two storey office along with extensive external hardstanding and logistics infrastructure.
Detailed project planning and adherence to site procedures were required to maintain safe and secure working including regular communication and collaboration with existing operators and construction projects on adjacent sites.
