Onshore Compression Terminal - BP Dimlington

  • Location: Easington, Hull
  • Client: Production Service Network
  • Duration: 59 weeks

PSN were awarded the £200m contract for the new high pressure Onshore Compression Terminal Integration Project (OCTIP) by BP Exploration at their Dimlington high pressure gas processing facility.

Although the new plant was constructed on a brownfield site within the confines of the existing Dimlington site, the site is classified as a Category 1 site to offshore safety standards, therefore, the safety regime has been highly demanding from a permitting and procedural point of view, requiring compliance with high levels of measures and controls during the works.

PSN awarded the civils works package carried out within the existing live site, to Clugston. Construction activity was split into three areas, two of which were ring fenced and controlled under the CDM Regulations, with the third area in amongst the live terminal plant. Civils works generally comprised earthworks and reinforced concrete foundations and slab areas for the various pipe racks and plant installations. Foundations vary from light foundations to heavily piled foundations and to depths up to four metres below ground level. All foundations require the casting in of holding down bolts without the use of sleeves to very tight tolerances. Other works included structural steel screw piled foundations (due to the location of existing plant and restrictions on working in certain areas of the site) and proposing and laying structural Macadam to enable the programme to be reduced, allowing follow on heavy lifts by PSN to proceed without any delays.

All of these processes required continual planning and co-ordination with the customer and the site owner due to the constrained size of the site, the integrated safe system of work (ISSOW) which covered permits for every operation on site and the presence of other trades managed by PSN & BP Exploration. The works saw a peak of 150 personnel and were programmed and managed to ensure that interfaces with both concurrent multi discipline and overall plant objectives were achieved safely.
