At Clugston we recognise that our customer’s minimum expectations should be that we deliver their projects on time, on budget and to the required quality. Driven by our culture of continuous improvement and a desire to build long lasting relationships, we always seek to add value to our service. Contributing to the success of our customers business by understanding their challenges and objectives is supported through our investment in the following areas:
Long before the advent of partnering as advocated by Latham, Egan and Rethinking Construction, we were cooperating with our Customers in ways which allowed us to add real value to their activities. Widely respected for our open style and reputation for teamwork, we have successfully collaborated in delivering projects using formal and informal partnering principles.
Working in partnership with our customers we have repeatedly demonstrated an ability to increase value for money or sometimes simply helped achieve affordability. Through being able to understand the project objectives and challenges, our in-house engineering and build-ability skills, coupled with cost planning can quickly advise on solutions.
At Clugston we recognise that first and foremost the quality of our staff is fundamental to success. We therefore strive to ensure we have the ‘Right Staff’ with the ‘Right Skills’ and the ‘Right Attitude’. To achieve this we invest heavily in training at every level to enable all our people to reach their potential and sucessfully undertake their roles and responsibilities. We also ensure all our staff and subcontractors are registered under the CSCS scheme. With our regional commitment the majority of our staff are based close to our network of offices, this enables them to bring local knowledge and commitment to the delivery of projects. These factors coupled with a policy of promoting from within enables us to enjoy staff retention levels above the industry norm.
Clugston have often been at the forefront of innovation, whether it be emerging construction techniques, use of new materials or procurement routes. In recent years we have been involved in the use of modular and volumetric construction, a wide range of sustainable technologies and fast track construction techniques. An early entrant into the PPP market, Clugston have delivered numerous schemes via PFI, LIFT and partnering consistent with the Rethinking Construction agenda.
Our national and local knowledge of subcontractors, supported by a thorough appraisal system has allowed Clugston to build up a database of only those companies who we know will meet our own strict standards and in turn those of our customers.
Over time we have developed strategic alliances with a select number whose specific skills and business philosophies complement our own. We encourage them to keep us informed of their activities and innovations in materials and processes within their respective fields.
For the past decade we have been involved in providing ongoing estates services for both Clugston Group developments and PFI investments.
This has taught us the importance of considering whole life running costs at the design and construction stage. As a result we can provide this experience to help our Customers plan their projects and minimise whole life costs.
"Working closely with the University and appointed design team early in the process has enabled Clugston to engage in the design process and bring to bear their experience to provided excellent practical and cost effective solutions to complex projects; none more so often than the recently completed ICM Immunology project with the Medical School at Newcastle University."
